Andrew Barnes

Andrew graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1976 and after completing his Articles, was admitted to practice in South Australia in 1978.  Andrew has practised exclusively in family law since the mid eighties.

He joined Wallmans in November 1979 and was a partner of that firm for many years.

In 2009 he became a founding partner of BBS Lawyers.

Andrew is a qualified and registered Mediator who has conducted a number of mediations in relation to family law property settlements. 

He has considerable experience in dealing with children’s disputes and complex property settlements involving companies, Trusts and third parties.  Andrew has also assisted a large number of clients to resolve their differences by mediation (when not acting as the Mediator himself) and by negotiation. 

Andrew has acted in a number of very large and complex property disputes and very difficult parenting cases.  He understands how hard separation is and the many problems that follow.  Andrew has acted for many clients in major disputes and litigation in the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court.  He has advised and acted for clients in Appeals to the Full Court of the Family Court and even the High Court.

Andrew is an acknowledged expert and has presented papers on all aspects of Family Law to various State and National institutions including the Australian Taxation Institute.  Andrew’s broad expertise covers advice for asset protection including pre-nuptial and domestic partnership agreements

He is a member of the Law Society of South Australia and The Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.  Andrew also maintains accreditation in respect to his mediator status with the Law Society of South Australia.  He is a member of AIFLAM (Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators) and ANZAPPL (Australia and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law(SA).
